Carson served in the Marine Corps as an infantryman from 2009 to 2015. He completed two deployments to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines. After that, he moved to 2nd Light Armored Recon and deployed on the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit as an LAR Scout. When he completed his active duty period Carson returned to Michigan and served for three more years in his local National Guard unit as a combat medic.
After his time in the military Carson wanted a way to be able to contribute to the veteran community. He found LifeGR®, a non-profit started in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He listened to the testimonies of fellow veterans who have been able to transform their lives, thanks to the counseling and life coaching services provided by LifeGR®. Carson felt that the best way to be able to contribute to LifeGR®'s success would be to build a business that can contribute financially, as well as build awareness for LifeGR® to gather greater community support.
Sam is the owner and head trainer at CrossFit Grand Rapids. He is a CrossFit Level 2 certified trainer, a CrossFit Endurance trainer, a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Trainer, and a NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist. After graduating from Aquinas College Sam joined the army and traveled around the world. He was stationed in Seattle, Germany, El Paso and was deployed to Iraq before returning home to Grand Rapids. While in the Army, Sam was a Recon Squad Leader and a Sniper Team Leader.
Sam returned home to Grand Rapids and continued his love for fitness that he had found in the Army. After working for a number of local gyms as a personal trainer and group fitness coach he started at CrossFit Grand Rapids as the Head Trainer and Manager. Two years later he took over the company on his own and hasn't looked back since. Sam's need to give back to serve his community led him to become a paid on call Firefighter in the city of Grandville.
Sam enjoys helping others reach their fitness goals especially those in the Military, Law Enforcement and Fire service. His personal experience, fitness back ground and the large number of friends still serving he has a great resource and feed back on his training plans.
Sam became involved with Team Sciath through his desire to give back to the Veteran community. Sam met Carson through their mutual involvement with LifeGR®. Then the rest was history.
